St. Vincent de Paul Society

Ministry Update & Invitation

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Pax Christi was established in the fall of 2012. For the past ten years we have assisted in the paying of rent, utilities, and food to those in need in our community.

Currently, our ministry consists of 10 members. We are a small but mighty group. Over the years, I learned that being a Vincentian is a calling, a vocation. This ministry may not be for everyone. It requires a certain dedication and a desire to bring Christ to those in need just like St. Vincent de Paul did in the 1600s and ever since, when the Society was formed in 1833. What makes us so unique is our home visits. When a person reaches out to our ministry, we go to the person’s home bringing Christ to them. We sit with them, listen, and often pray with them. Most times, we are fortunate enough to be able to help them.

Although our county is a wealthy community, there are many families living paycheck to paycheck and that one bump in the road can send them down a path that leads to financial insecurity and the very real possibility of eviction.

As a Vincentian you may meet the single dad of three children, who suddenly became unemployed and no family to speak of that can help, the grandmother who is living on social security and now finds herself taking care of her 9-year-old grandson due to an unsafe home environment, or the young millennial who had a great job prospect, rented a new apartment he believed he could afford but due to unforeseen circumstances, that job opportunity goes away. These are only a few examples of the kinds of situations you may encounter as a Vincentian.

If visiting, listening, praying with, and helping those in need are of interest to you, please visit us on Sunday September 18, 2022 in the Christi Center for donut Sunday. You can also check out the display case in the Great Hall to learn a little bit more about St. Vincent de Paul and what it means to be a Vincentian.

Finally, I want to thank Father Andrzej for his continued support of this ministry as well as the many parishioners who have donated to it over the years.
